For all ages

Percy Jackson’s life blows. He can’t seem to stay in one school for more than a year, and swears he sees things that aren’t possible…like every school he’s been in, a teacher seems to try to kill him. To make matters worse, he never knew his father, who was lost at sea when he was a baby. Instead, he’s stuck at home with a stepfather who’s lazy, rude, and anything but deserving of Percy’s mother, who he loves more than anything. Χαίρετε! (Sur-le-teh) That means hello in Greek, (according to google translate, anyways) as used in the Percy Jackson series by the amazingly funny as well as talented Rick Riordan. Greetings to all demigods out there! The Percy Jackson series is the perfect book for all ages, whether it’s a bed time story or a book to take your mind off things or you simply wanted a good laugh. The story follows Percy Jackson and his trio of friends, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, as they stumble through challenges and obstacles they may face in  the life at Camp Half-Blood. When Percy Jackson, the “troubled kid” and blue food lover, suddenly finds out he’s a the child of a Greek god, more commonly known as a “Half-Blood”, or “demigod”, his entire world is turned upside down…quite literary in some cases. Now he finds himself at Camp Half-Blood, which is supposedly supposed to help him learn to defend himself and keep him safe. However, the Gods seem to have a different plan for Percy…Zeus’s lightning bolt has gone missing, and he accuses his brother, Poseidon, of stealing it. If someone doesn’t find the powerful electric bolt soon, war will break out on Olympus. So, naturally, fate seemed to choose Percy, the awkward 12-year-old newbie, to take on the task. But will he be able to safely return the bolt to Zeus before the summer solstice deadline? Follow Percy and his hilarious adventures in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, which is made up of 5 books: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. Percy’s story continues with his roman friends in the Heroes of Olympus series, which is also 5 books: The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades, and The Blood of Olympus. You can find out more on the God Apollo in the Trials of Apollo series, Which is currently still in the works but has three books published: The Hidden Oracle, The Dark Prophecy, and The Burning Maze. Book 4, The Tyrant’s Tomb, is due to come out in fall of 2019. You can follow Annabeth’s cousin Magnus in the Magnus Chase: The Guards of Asgard trilogy, which includes The Sword of Summer, The Hammer of Thor, and The Ship of the Dead. Riordan also writes of the adventures of Carter and Sadie Kane in The Kane Chronicles, which also has 3 books: The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow. If you want more of Percy and the Argo 2 crew, you can look into The Demigod Files or Camp Half-Blood Confidential. For more on Magnus Chase, you can check out Hotel Valhalla’s Guide to the Norse Worlds. For more on the Kane Chronicles, you can find the Brooklyn House Magician Manuel Or, if you want to find out what happens when Greek and Egyptian mythology mix, you can look at Demigods and Magicians, which contains 3 crossovers from both the Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicle universes. For more about Greek mythology itself, Percy explains very thoroughly, though somewhat oddly, the many stories of that in Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods and Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes. There’s many amazing books in the Rick Riordan works, and I highly suggest them all. Hope you enjoy this series and don’t forget: Never bet against Annabeth.

                                                                ~FUN FACTS~

  • Percy Jackson was originally a bedtime story for Riordan’s son, Haley, who is diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, as many demigods are, since his son loved Greek Mythology. Book one, The Lightning Thief, is dedicated to him, saying “To Haley, who heard the story first.”
  • Author Rick Riordan, like Harry Potter’s J.K. Rowling, shares a birthday with one of his characters. However, Riordan shares his with both Frank Zhang, as well as Grover Underwood, on June 5th.
  • Like many authors, Riordan got clever with names. For example: Clarisse La Rue, daughter of Ares. The french word rue means to regret, as Clarisse inflicts regret to her enemies in battle. A La Rue is also a type of rife. Another example is Lee Fletcher, son of Apollo. The name Fletcher is someone who makes archery arrows. A final example is Silena Beauregard, daughter of Aphrodite. In french, the language of love, beau translates to “handsome” or “good-looking.” There are so many others who have a twist on their names, if you happen to be a child of Athena and manage to catch them

                                               THAT IS BLUE COOKIE WORTHY!

*UPDATE ON BLUE COOKIES: Sorry, just received news that Percy ate them all.
