For Tweens and Up

“I MADE THE WRONG CHOICE.”

Lina didn’t want any of this. She didn’t want her mother to die. She didn’t want to be sent to Florence, Italy, to stay with her father, who by the way she’s NEVER EVEN MET. She didn’t want to be stuck here, sleeping in an old World War 2 cemetery. Yet here she was. In this story, Jenna Evans Welch tells the hilarious story of  Love and Gelato, following Lina, a fun, spunky young girl with a large appetite and an even larger heart. This is a perfect book if you’re in the mood for a laugh, and is full of lightheartedness that would perk up your day. It is also not crazy long, and has you hooked from the beginning, so even the people who are the toughest to get to read won’t be able to resist it. Its definitely perfect for all ages from tween and up. When Lina’s mother suddenly passes away from cancer, she leaves behind her dying wish for Lina to go to Italy to stay with Howard, her father. The problem is, Lina doesn’t want to go, but feels like she must fullfill her mother’s wish. While staying in Florence, she is given a journal that her mother had written during the time she’d stayed there in her college years. Curious, Lina decides to read it, wanting to find more about her mom and her life before she had Lina. But something is off,  like a missing piece of a puzzle. Who is the mysterious “X?” In the meantime, Howard encourages Lina to explore what Florence has to offer, and she meets the ever-so-charming Ren, and together, they set off to do all the things her mother did, hoping to find a new connection to her. However, soon Lina discovers a bombshell that turns her world upside down once again: Is Howard really her father? Luckily, Ren is willing to help Lina find out the truth. Will Lina be able to get to the bottom of this mystery and win the boy? “People come to Italy for love and gelato,” she is told. How will Lina make that phrase her own? Please consider reading this book, and don’t miss out on the sequel, Love & Luck, which recenly came out earlier this year and follows Addie,  Lina’s best  friend, on her own search for love. Hope you enjoyed this review and look up the wall of the missing in Florence, it’s an amazing story.
