America is torn. Everyday since she was chosen, she’s faced with a decision of who she loves, who she must choose. She never even wanted any of this in the first place—yet somehow, she still managed to end up here, living the life of a princess. But what if she never wanted that? All she’s ever wanted is love. Hello people of America! (Or is it Illéa for this occasion?) The Selection series by Kiera Cass is the perfect book for young tween/teenage girls who love a good romance story. Of course, this isn’t your ordinary princess tale. We start out with America Singer, the feisty redhead, who lives in Illéa, where everybody is ranked from 1-8 based on their work, 1 being royalty and 8 being the worst possible, a disgrace. America is a 5. She leads a simple life, full of singing and playing piano. She has almost everything she needed-a family who she adores, enough fans to keep coming back, and a boy she loves. Naturally, she knew that life couldn’t last. Prince Maxon Shreave is having his selection-where 35 girl’s names are drawn for the prince to choose his bride-and America’s family wants her to enter. America wants nothing to do with the Prince, especially since she’d never even met the guy! But she knows what it could mean for her family and eventually caves in, and with her luck, her name is drawn. Join America through her Selection experience, where she’ll meet new friends, make new enemies, face the decision between two people, and encouter challenges that comes with being royalty. America’s hilariously romantic story continues in The Elite, and The One. You can meet America’s daughter, Eadlyn, in The Heir, and The Crown. Who’s team will you be on? Follow America as she realizes to accept herself and her choices, and don’t forget that “darling, you’re perfect.”

                                                      ~FUN FACTS~

  • When Author Kiera Cass goes on book tour, she collects and saves all of her hotel keys. She’s collected about 30 keys in two years as of 2014, so she probably has a lot more now than she did then.
  • Cass also admitted that she dislikes cold vegetables-salads in particular, so if you were to offer to take her to lunch, I wouldn’t recommend taking her to a salad bar.
  •  Cass, the author of a romance series, actually rejected her husband about 3 times before she would date him.
  • Cass’s First name, Kiera, comes from the movie Xanadu, because movie names run in her family.
  • Cass also stated that she does not drink coffee or tea either, but she does like hot chocolate. So Starbucks is a good bet, since they have all 3.
  • When she was in high school, Cass was in a chamber choir, where she sang second soprano, which is in the middle of soprano and alto.

“It’s always the fear of looking stupid that stops you from being awesome”

-Kiera Cass

Awesome like those facts!

I hope you will consider checking this series out at your local library and feel free to leave a comment! Because as “It turns out I’m absolutely terrible at staying away from you. It’s a very serious problem.”
